There’s more to that ‘racist’ meme of Samuel L. Jackson and Magic Johnson than meets the eye
It’s certainly a zany story with a catchy headline — Italians mistake actor Samuel L. Jackson and legendary basketball player Magic Johnson for “lazy migrants.” But there’s much more to the story than a clickbaity title, and it taps into a widespread debate on populism, racism, and immigration. SEE ALSO: Google cancels diversity meeting because of alt-right trolling It all started when left-wing satirical writer Luca Bottura posted on Facebook a meme of Jackson and Johnson on holiday in Forte dei Marmi for what he later described as a “social experiment”— in a nutshell, to troll migrant-haters in the […]
Italian Politicians Furious As Rome Covers Nude Statues For Iranian President’s Visit
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani arrived in Rome Tuesday on his first European trip after the implementation of the landmark nuclear deal. But just hours after his arrival, Italian politicians were already up in arms about the visit. Rouhani embarked on his European tour ready to reestablish economic relations after sanctions against Iran were lifted. In addition to meeting the pope, the Iranian leader conferred with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. To avoid offending the Iranian leader, authorities at the press conference with Rouhani and Renzi at the Esedra room of the Capitoline Museum opted to cover up classic nude statues with large […]
Italy Likely To Pass Law Encouraging Vendors To Donate Unsold Food
Another European country is joining the battle against food waste. The draft law is expected to pass in the Italian Chamber of Deputies this week, after which it will go to the Senate for final approval, according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica. The text concerns pharmaceutical and food products that are consumable but unsold due to […]

But even if such manoeuvres keep it at bay temporarily, one thing is clear: the party is now the second most powerful force in Italy behind Renzis diminished Democratic party. Vincenzo Scarpetta, a […]
Uber is now banned in Italy for unfair competition
While Uber is fighting Waymo at home, the American company is also having issues abroad. As Reuters reported, an Italian court has ordered Uber to stop all activities in all of Italy. The court says Uber represents unfair competition for taxi drivers. In particular, the court in Rome says that Uber is a transportation company but doesnt respect transportation laws rates arent set by the transportation authority. That was the main contention point for traditional taxi associations as they cant compete with Uber on price. Uber has 10 days to shut down all its activities and cant run any advertising […]
